Daily Devotional, Spiritual Walk

“And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.  And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.” – Deuteronomy 6:5-7

If you get a hazardous chemical on your skin, you are to flush the area with water immediately to lessen the potential damage.  Leave it on there, and death (to your skin cells) occurs.  I went to bed with “death” in my heart.  I have a difficult student in my class this week and I snuggled into my covers last night with all kinds of plans to show him who’s boss, tell him off, and of course, let him know exactly who run this – me.  God gently reminded me that I don’t run this – He does – as the words to Phil Wickham’s “Amazing Grace” flowed through my heart this morning.  I pouted in the dark as “what a love we’ve found ~ death can’t hold us down ~ we shout it out ~ we’re alive ‘cause You’re alive…this is amazing grace” looped in my head.

Did you know that negative thoughts are like death to our souls?  And I let those bad boys fester in my heart all night.  But thankfully, death can’t hold me down.  You know why we’re alive today?  It’s because of grace – for us and others.  The reason we woke up this morning was not so that we could tell someone off or prove our worth.  It is simply because someone needs some grace extended to them.  That’s it!  And no, we don’t get to determine if they deserve it.  None of us do.  And that’s what makes it amazing.  Have a great day.
