Good morning, peeps!
“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light” – 1 Peter 2:9
If anyone ever puts a copy of the movie “What’s Love Got To Do With It” into your hands, watch it. It is the dramatization of Tina Turner’s life. Let me warn you though: seeing her twirling around the stage at 75+ years can make anyone age 30 and below feel like a slacker. In heels, no less! What kind of mess is that??! I’ve always been captured by the opening scene, when a young Anna Mae (her real name) was shown singing at choir rehearsal. The song they were singing was “This Little Light of Mine” and it seems like Anna Mae’s light was outshining everyone else’s. She wasn’t trying to showboat – her praise was genuine and it was real. I loved hearing her growl! Before you read further, check put that scene on YouTube. Notice how innocent her praise is. How free and uninhibited it was…until someone told her that was not how God wanted to be praised. She was no doubt labeled as unruly, disobedient, disrespectful…peculiar.
I bet each and every one of us can remember the exact moment the innocence of our praise was taken away, when you were made to believe that something was wrong with the way you showed your love for God just because it was different. When you became afraid to let your light shine out of fear of being burned. Don’t be.
Shine, baby, shine!
As you start your week, I want you to be you. You have something that only you can bring to the world. That light of yours? It’s much needed. The world needs it. I NEED IT. I pray that we embrace the light that is in us – that’s in each other – and shine like never before. And also burn up some stuff. Have a great day!
